Lovely bunkering on 17th Photo submitted by theglasseyegolfer on 03/03/2021
Lovely Members club in Leafy Melbourne Inner Suburbs
A tight and interesting layout in the very nice inner suburbs of Melbourne, Kew provides an excellent golfing experience. While the course is not on the sandbelt (and is known to get muddy in winter - although I believe this is much improved) it does have a sandbelt feel to it with its bunkering.
Not overly long, with tall trees and water lining the fairway, the course requires selective use of the driver as placement off the tee is paramount. I found myself using my 4 iron and 3wood off the tee quite frequently.
The fairways are as lush as any course on the Melbourne and the greens were firm and hard on this day.
My favorite hole was the par 5 13th. It is a hole that requires an accurate tee shot to the right of the fairway to have any chance of attacking the tree-protected green in two.
Some nice touches with a double green for the 1st and the 8th. The 3rd hole is also a tough hole with water and trees right, fairway bunkers just beyond the ideal landing area.
The club has a short driving range, practice nets, and two putting greens. Clubhouse was being redeveloped so didn't see the facility inside.
